The philosophy of chair water

Winding down, finally arrived at our last destination-an adventure of its own.
the development of our travel: on domestic soil
i finished packing my things around 230 am and decided to try and get some sleep before leaving at 5 am to pick up DB. 3:45 a.m.- call from DB, "hey, your still coming at 5 right?"
me: "uhhhh... yeah...."
DB: " ok cool, just wanted to see wat was up..."
me: " uhh ok..just sleepin over here..."
DB: "yeah ok, me 2 ...just wanted to make sure you were still coming"
me: "yes, danny...i am still planning to go on this trip and picking you up at 5am like we discussed about 3 hrs ago"
DB: "awesome. cool. ok. good night."

and so it began.....6 hrs of people watching in JFK, and then we were off. We boarded the plane and immediatly felt excited...all the chairs and decor of the plane with earthy indian tones and DB and I took our seats and started perusing through bollywood videos and indian music. it went fairly well considering we wer on a plane for about 15 hrs i dont even really know, but we took turns stretching our feet and laying across the 1 empty seat in between the two of us. even tho we had our own row i couldnt help but feel we had a visitor bc the guy sitting behind us felt the need to put his face up between the crack of the chair and stare at me for about 10 minutes at a time every couple hr or so (aproximate distance from my face = 5-7 inches. hilarity. now i know wat Ami was talking about, but we made it through for our next leg to delhi and then finally after 2 hrs of undisturbed coma action, we arrived at our destination. Kolkata.
the moment where it sunk in for me: a giant bronze statue relic that can be seen from the plane as you are landing. im like, ok...im in india. HAAAAAAA
danny's moment: after not really caring about landing (still in a sleepy grumpy haze), standing in airport, a young indian girl in traditional garb walks past him, jaw drops, head turns to follow her walk, then turns to me a smile from ear to ear...words: "bro"

sensory overload. the city of coffee colored people with bobbling heads. kolkata is hidden under a veil of smog and a strong aroma of sulfur. we wer immediatly greeted by our driver who took our bags from our hands and insisted he load the car. then he bobbled at me- an invitation to get in and we began our journey to jadavpur university. i felt as though i was at disney worlds back to the future ride. a speeding delorian weaving in and out of a valley of bilboards and unfinished buildings- all of which are inhabited already. no windows, no doors- concrete skeleton buildings full of dangling laundry and lit candles. stop lights are scarce and always red, but i have learned that a red stoplight means hold down your horn and continue as you were. speeding down a highway ligned with stone camels and desert sand piles we got used to the sound of everyone jabbing their horn for no apparant reason other than for the pleasure of the noise it made.
we finally arrived and the driver asked me to pay him- and i did- way more than wat he asked bc i didnt have change and he promised to return the next day with change and a receipt...so im interested to see if that will happen...our room is very modest with two small beds with sketchy looking sheats and an air conditioner (thank you baby jesus), and our shower and toilet are in the same space one over the other.
exhaustion really sets in and DB has just informed me there is roof access to the building we are staying in- thats my cue. more crazyness to come....first night under the indian skyyy
